Scarlett, young, sexy and wild, is at the height of her popularity. Part of her allure is her reputation as a total party girl and she lives that part to the limit. So when her photographer arrives at her house the next morning after a party, he’s not surprised to find her half-naked and completely out of it. She stands like a zombie, dressed only in a man’s white, collared shirt, with a rubber ball gag in her mouth. Besides the stale perfume and cigarette smoke, another scent drifts at the edge of his consciousness. Something about that smell tells him it’s important, but he loses the train of thought, as he realizes the reason for her mannikin-like state. “Damn it!” he thinks, “She must have tried that new drug that’s hitting the party scene. Do too much of it and it can make a K-hole seem like a muscle cramp.” The mind becomes locked in the body, and the muscles become stiff, almost like rigor mortise.

A flash of anger washes over him, Scarlett’s irresponsibility costing him a long planned photo shoot and the money it would bring. Then, an idea comes to him. This may be the best photo shoot ever.

Removing the ball gag from her mouth, he carries her to the middle of the room. Posing her in a variety of ways, even going so far as to mold her face into an array of expressions. From angry to thoughtful to silly, the photographer is in complete control of the model, her face and her body and uses that to the full extent, capturing every inch of her young, exposed body. When he is done, unsure as to how to leave her, he decides to return everything as he found it. Replacing the ball gag and the white shirt that she wore, he finally recognizes the odor that has hung in the air. So pervasive and familiar that it nagged at the back of his brain persistently. Alcohol!

Scarlett was so into the latest and most elite of the party substances that he had utterly discounted such a lowly intoxicant, but she reeked of it. That was another aspect of this new party drug, if it is overused, along with alcohol, the effects can be permanent. Looking closer at the immobilized, young starlet, he notices an eyelid quiver, as liquid wells up and overflows, becoming a tear that rolls down her cheek. Suddenly, he understands. Scarlett has been conscious the whole time, her mind desperate to cry out, but trapped in a useless body. He had never considered them close, but to see her this way broke his heart. Her life was over and to be left like this, locked into a prison of flesh, doomed to live out existence as a coma patient, felt like a living hell. As an act of mercy, he breaks the young girl’s neck, letting her body fall to the floor. Taking one last photo of her naked and ball gagged corpse, he walks away to mourn.
